Dear Congress participants,
Attached I am sending a list

not listed or are listed from the wrong departure point, please contact the
Organizing Committee immediately at isacongress@butantan.gov.Br .
Also please check if you have "???" beside your name. The first column
means you still need to send us your passport number (for foreigners) or RG
number (for Brazilians) for the bus company insurance. The second column means
you must send us your flight schedule.

FLIGHT INFO
Dear colleagues,
Just an important notice concerning arrivals and departures in Brazil. The congress in São Pedro will begin Sunday night (August 5th) with an opening cocktail starting at around 19:00hs. And will finish Friday afternoon (August 10th) after lunch. The trip to São Pedro takes approximately three hours.
The organization has arranged buses that will leave from São Paulo (Tietê Bus Terminal) and Guarulhos (International Airport) on Sunday, August 5th in the morning and in the afternoon and will return on the Friday, August 10th, after lunch. This transportation will be FREE OF CHARGE for all congress participants and accompanying persons. Please note that if you choose to travel on any other date or time you will have to cover the costs and it will be difficult for us to help.
When booking your flight please make sure you arrive either on Saturday 4th or early Sunday 5th. Do not book flights that arrive Sunday night. We do not have means to provide transportation to São Pedro. You will have to spend the night in Guarulhos and use public transportation the next day, which not only will be a hassle but will also mean loosing all Monday morning activities. Be careful also when booking your return flight on Friday. Do not book flights leaving before 21:00 hs. We might not manage to get you to the Airport on time.
We strongly advise those who have already booked flights
arriving late on the Sunday 5th (after 16:00hs) or leaving early on the Friday
10th (before 21:00) to change your flight schedule.

GENERAL INFO
LODGING BEFORE AND AFTER THE CONGRESS
For those participants arriving in Brazil before August 5th and leaving after
August 10th we have listed a few hotels in the city of São Paulo and
in Guarulhos (close to the international airport) with the additional booking
information and an estimated rate (based on internet information).
If you plan on staying only one day, Guarulhos is probably your best option,
since it is very close to the Airport and thus to the meeting point for the
Congress bus. All suggested hotels have a shuttle service to and from the Airport
leaving the Departure area in terminal 2 every hour.
However, if you plan on staying on more than one day and get to know a bit of
São Paulo, we strongly recommend you stay in the city. We have selected
a few hotels mostly around the Paulista avenue area in what is called "zona
oeste" (western zone). Hotels in the city don't usually have a shuttle
service to and from the Airport. You can take a taxi straight from the Airport
to the hotel (very expensive - approximately US$ 50.00-60.00) or use the airport
service bus. The bus that runs on line "Paulista Avenue / Augusta Street
hotels circuit" will drop you off at the Paulista avenue, from where you
can easily get a taxi to the hotel of your choice. For more information on the
Airport Bus service please check http://www.airportbusservice.com.br/.

CONGRESS MANUSCRIPT GUIDELINES:
The editors of the Journal of Arachnology (JoA) have decided that all manuscripts
submitted for the Brazil ISA Congress Proceedings (to be published in volume
36, issue #2), must be submitted to Paula Cushing, Managing Editor of the JoA
no later than December 15, 2007. Submissions must be clearly designated by the
authors as Congress submissions. Manuscripts submitted after the December 15th
deadline will be considered for later issues of the Journal. We cannot guarantee
that late submissions will be published in the Congress Proceedings or will
even be considered for the Congress Proceedings. Submissions should be sent
electronically to Paula.Cushing@dmns.org (alternate address PECushing@juno.com).
Congress manuscripts should be no more than 15 pages in length (double spaced)
not including figures and tables. If manuscripts are longer than 15 pages, authors
must first contact the Managing Editor. If authors wish to submit a monograph
sized manuscript, they must first contact the Managing Editor prior to submission.
All authors must strictly adhere to all format and other guidelines explained
in the Instructions to Authors. These instructions can be accessed at www.americanarachnology.org.
Any congress manuscript that does not adhere to these Instructions to Authors
will be returned to the author and will not be processed until the manuscript
adheres to all JoA policies and formatting guidelines.
Authors for whom English is not their first language must have a native English
speaker read, edit, and help revise the manuscript prior to submission. If the
author does not know a native English speaker who can assist with this task,
the author must contact Paula Cushing prior to submission and she will arrange
for assistance with this task.
All congress manuscripts will be reviewed in the same manner and with the same
requirements for scientific quality and content as are any submissions to the
Journal of Arachnology.

We STILL HAVE TIME AVAILABLE FOR ANOTHER FOUR PROPOSALS. Please contact Glauco Machado or Adalberto Santos if you have any suggestions. A complete program of the lectures and sessions, as well as a list of the poster titles that will be presented will be available online as we near the event.
Travel Grants:
Travel grants will be available for scientists and students who would like to attend the 17th International Congress of Arachnology. However, we would like to remind you that these grants willl depend mainly on the amount of regular registrations, ISA and funding from Brazilian agencies and that at this time we cannot estimate the ammount of funds we will have available. Those planning to apply for one of these travel grants MUST have filled out the preliminary registration form and must send the following information to isacongress@butantan.gov.br no later than March 1st 2007:
• Abstract(s) of the
paper(s) that will be presented (guidelines and submission form will be posted
on our website by the end of January, 2007).
• short CV (no longer than two pages)
• short letter stating how the applicant's attendance at the Congress
will benefit his/her research and home institution, as well as the possibilities
of the applicant receiving support from his/her home institution or country.
• Budget detailing your needs (registration fee and/or accomodation and/or
transport). If you can manage part of the budget we can divide our funds into
partial grants and thus help many more participants.
We have been alerted to
the fact that there seems to be some difficulty in booking flights to Brazil.
This might be due to the Panamerican Games which will be held in Rio de Janeiro
in July. Although we do not think this will be much of a problem, we strongly
recommend that you look into reservations early next year.
The organizing committee would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!!!!!
FIFTH CIRCULAR
17TH INTERNATIONAL
CONGRESS OF ARACHNOLOGY
AUGUST 5-11, 2007
- SÃO PEDRO, BRAZIL
Dear Colleagues,
The organizing committee is pleased to announce that we have now almost 250 preliminary registrations for the 17th International Congress of Arachnology. We have also confirmed four of the five plenary talks we have planned for the congress:
Our fellow arachnologists have already proposed four symposia but we still have time available for another four proposals.
We welcome any suggestions you might have, so please contact the organization.
We would also like to remind
everyone to please fill out the preliminary
registration form. Even if you do not know if you will be able to attend.
There is no need to fill out the “presentation” field. The aim of
the preliminary registration is to compile an e-mail database and estimate the
number of people that will be attending the congress. Also, if you wish to apply
for a congress grant or, if you reside in a third world country, a TWAS
Travel grant, you need to fill out the preliminary registration.
FOURTH CIRCULAR
17TH INTERNATIONAL
CONGRESS OF ARACHNOLOGY
AUGUST 5-11, 2007
- SÃO PEDRO, BRAZIL
Dear colleagues,
In an attempt to bring as many participants as possible for the next ISA Congress,
we will apply for a small grant from the TWAS. This support is provided in the
form of travel grants for participants from developing countries other than
Brazil, where the congress will be held. The value awarded is not very high.
Thus, we will have to select among those who wish to apply. We ask that if you
have any possibility of obtaining funds elsewhere, or if you need funds to cover
also lodging expenses, that you do not apply for this fund, since it is nominal
and non transferable.
The organizing committee will apply for the grant in the form of airfares. Please
remember that those who wish to apply must have filled out the preliminary
registration form. Also, those who receive this support must be able to
handle the lodging expenses.
If you wish to apply for one of these grants please send the following information
to the congress organization at isacongress@butantan.gov.br
no later than November 19th.
• Name:
• Title (MSc; PhD; undergraduate):
• Institution:
• Address (complete with phone number and e-mail address):
• A short CV (maximum 2 pages)
• A brief explanation of why you wish to attend the congress and how this
will contribute towards the promotion of regional and international cooperation
in developing science (Please do not exceed one page).
• Preliminary title and type (poster, oral, symposia…) of presentation.
• Air fare budget from the originating city to Brazil and back. Please
consult more than one airline.
THIRD CIRCULAR
17TH INTERNATIONAL
CONGRESS OF ARACHNOLOGY
AUGUST 5-11, 2007
- SÃO PEDRO, BRAZIL
Dear colleagues,
We are happy to inform that
we have to date over 150 preliminary registrations for next year’s congress
and several symposium suggestions that are being considered by the Scientific
Committee. If you have not yet filled out your preliminary
registration please do so at: http://www.ib.usp.br/~ricrocha/ISA17/registration.htm.
We would like to remind you that this is very important so that we have an idea
of the number of students and scientists interested in the congress and to compile
an e-mail database for information purposes. A list of participants will be
posted on our website shortly.
We are also pleased to announce that travel grants will be available for scientists
and students who would like to attend the 17th International Congress of Arachnology.
However, we would like to remind you that these grants willl depend mainly on
the amount of regular registrations, ISA and funding from Brazilian agencies
and that at this time we cannot estimate the ammount of funds we will have available.
Those planning to apply for one of these travel grants MUST fill out the preliminary
registration form and send the following information to isacongress@butantan.gov.br
no later than March 31st 2007:
• Abstract(s) of the
paper(s) that will be presented (guidelines will be posted on our website by
the end of October).
• short CV (no longer than two pages)
• short letter stating how the applicant's attendance at the Congress
will benefit his/her research and home institution, as well as the possibilities
of the applicant receiving support from his/her home institution or country.
• Budget detailing your needs (registration fee and/or accommodation and/or
transport). If you can manage part of the budget we can divide our funds into
partial grants and thus help many more participants.
Decisions will be made by
the Scientific branch of the Organizing Committee on the basis of excellence
of scientific abstracts and needs, extent of personal participation in the Congress,
benefit of attendance to the professional work of the applicant, the benefit
to arachnology, and the significance of professional contacts anticipated.
Since we are hoping to have as many participants possible we strongly recommend
that in addition to the Travel grants offered by the Scietific Committee you
look into other means of funding. Some information can be found at http://wildlife.wisc.edu/simbiota/s-list.htm
See you in Brazil!!!
