Conference site and lodging
Participants coming from abroad - All international flights must be booked with Guarulhos International Airport (GRU), São Paulo, as the final destination. Shuttle buses to Ilhabela will be provided free of charge. Detailed shuttle schedule will be available in due time.
Participants traveling from other parts of Brazil - People boarding domestic flights should try to book their flights to Guarulhos. If that is not possible, participants should take the shuttle or a cab from Congonhas airport to Guarulhos (Airport Bus Service) or from Campinas to Guarulhos if the flight so happens to arrive at Viracopos airport. From Guarulhos, participants will be taken by bus to Ilhabela. Ground transportation expenses will be reimbursed.
Participants arriving from other cities in São Paulo - People coming by bus must take the shuttle from either Tietê or Barra Funda bus stations to Guarulhos in order to be picked up by the shuttle service to Ilhabela. People arriving by car must make parking arrangements. Parking fees will NOT be reimbursed.
Visa
Brazil enforces the "international principle of reciprocity". If your country requires a visitor's visa from Brazilian citizens (e.g. USA, Japan, Canada, Mexico), it is likely that you will also need to apply for a Temporary (not Business) Visa to visit Brazil. Make sure to check with your local Brazilian consulate or embassy as soon as possible in order to guarantee that, if needed, the visa will be issued in a timely fashion. Official invitation letters will be provided for those participants that need to apply for a Visa. Visa expenses will NOT be reimbursed.
Money/Currency
The official currency in Brazil is the Brazilian Real (R$). No other currency is accepted in daily transactions. If you have a VISA or Mastercard debit card you should be able to withdraw money from local ATMs. Check with your bank or credit card company to make sure this service is available to you. It is advisable to bring cash for expenses not covered by the program, such as alcoholic beverages, personal use items, souvenirs, unscheduled activities, etc. There are several exchange offices at the airport, but not in Ilhabela, so do make sure to change all your money before boarding the shuttle. A list of exchange offices is provided below.
Action Cambio - from 05:00 AM to midnight - Terminal 1 - B Wing - phone: +55 11 2445 4458
American Express Foreign Exchange - from 05:00 AM to midnight - Terminal 1 - A Wing - phones: +55 11 2445 3351 - phone: +55 11 2445 3835

Insurance
Insurance expenses will not be covered by the program. It is strongly recommended that you consider an insurance policy of your choice to cover cancellations, medical expenses, loss or damage to personal property. The program will not cover expenses that the participants may incur into due to lack of proper insurance coverage.
Electricity
There are four electrical outlet standards in Brazil. Voltage transformers and plug adapters will be provided to ensure that participants can plug in their equipment.
Weather
In August, the weather in Ilhabela is mild, with average temperatures of 20 ºC (68 F). At night the temperatures may go down but will very rarely drop below 15 ºC. Participants are advised to pack light raingear, although the weather should remain mostly sunny.
Tipping
The rule of thumb is 10 per cent for good service in restaurants - and restaurants only. Sometimes the tip is already included in the check. No tipping is required for cab drivers, bartenders, doormen or bellboys.
