FISIOLOGIA DA MÚSICA: UMA ABORDAGEM COMPARATIVA

Por todo o mundo, nas mais diferentes culturas, é possível encontrar pessoas produzindo ou apreciando música. Ainda assim, não conseguimos explicar consensualmente se há na música vantagens adaptativas e por que ela está irrestritamente distribuída pelo globo. Estava Darwin certo ao sugerir que a música vem desde tempos remotos, ainda com nossos ancestrais? Mas e quanto às outras espécies? Podem elas produzir ou apreciar música? Se sim, por prazer/arte, como parece ser ao homem, ou como um simples instinto? Os indícios que permitem responder essas questões começam a ser encontrados. Faremos aqui uma revisão dos mecanismos neurofisiológicos que possibilitam a existência de música no homem e de que formas ela se manifesta em outras espécies. Palavras-chave. Abstract
Around the world in many different cultures, you can find people producing or enjoying music. Still, we cannot tell consensualy if there is any adaptive advantages in music and why it is distributed around the globe unrestrictedly. Was Darwin right in suggesting that music comes from ancient times, with our ancestors? But what about other species? Can they produce or enjoy music? If yes, for pleasure/art, as appears to be for man, or as simple instinct? The evidences for answering these questions begin to be found. We here review the neurophysiological mechanisms that allow the existence of music for man and in what ways it manifests itself in other species. Keywords. Music, neuroscience, comparative physiology
