Equipment and research facilities

The Instituto de Biociências (IB) possesses an excelent infrastructure composed by laboratories well equipped for different research areas and field work equipment. The IB has laboratories fully equipped for: molecular biology techniques, biochemistry and physiology, including DNA sequencers (Sanger), HPLCs, ultracentrifuges, thermal cyclers, real time PCRs, image and microscopy techniques, including electron microscopy (MEV and MET), confocal,, fluorescence microscopes, micro-tomograph; equipment and culture chamber for the maintnance and growth of several groups of organisms and cell lines.

The IB has a Electron Microscopy Center, a cryogene room (equipped with -80ºC ultrafreezers), Herbarium (SPF, with 200.000 exsiccates; 4.000 samples in wood collection; 550 type materials), vivarium and a garden with several greenhouses and hundreds of botanical species cataloged.

For field work, IB has a advanced base in Pirassununga in a "Cerrado" area, a laboratory truck, several 4x4 vehicles and many field equipment for autonomous diving, traps for different organisms, among others.
