Cryogenic room

Goal:

To keep for a long term samples and collections that are not in current use, forming a collection of biological interest for researchers//IBUSP.

Infrastructure:

Three Sanyo brand ultra-freezers -80ºC (2 capable of 728 liters and 1 capable of 333 liters),all with an alarm system with automatic CO2 backup that is only activated if the freezer reaches -60ºC (power outage or problems within the compressor). This backup is kept using no-break type batteries. The room has 2 air conditioning systems.

Working hours and room access:

2ª to 6ª from 9:00 to 16:00.

The room access must be schaduled within 12 hours before its usage with one of the responsible technicians, who will accompany the deposit or withdrawal of the material.

Samples:

It is possible to store DNA Samples, tissues and bacterial strains with a proper packaging and identifying forms filled out (forms in the sidebar). Samples containing OGMs should be Class I. The amount of samples that can be stored depends on the available space. The depositor is responsible for providing apropriate boxes and racks for using the Sanyo ultrafreezers.

When submitting samples, the available form must be filled and signed, and when removing the sample the same form must be signed by the responsible professor.
